Leonard Companies' History
“Westover”Lebanon, Virginia Leonard Companies, Ltd., began in 1954 with the sharecropping of .7 acre tobacco from the Frank Wysor farm and $700.00 in receipts. “Westover” is owned by the Leonard family: David A., Mary, David A. II, and Sarah. Custom machinery, sheep dipping, and 4-H projects promoted the purchase of 4 acres in 1958. The Company managed purebred livestock sales from offices in Charlottesville, VA, in states from Maine to Florida and west to South Dakota from 1963 to 1975. The farms purchased beginning 1961 and comprising of 9 tracts totaling 1050 acres plus leased acreage, produce feeder cattle, and quarter horses. The Company began diversifying in 1969 into commercial real estate and banking.
The equine facility is now located on our 400 acre quarter horse division headquarters in Hansonville, VA.
